Las relaciones de Kenia y Colombia se profundizan

 

Nairobí, 23 de agosto de 2021. La Embajadora de Colombia ante el Gobierno de Kenia, Mónica de Greiff, se reunió con La Ministra de Relaciones Exteriores de Kenia,  Raychelle Omamo, el pasado 20 de agosto en la Cancillería en Nairobi, para revisar y discutir la agenda temática y plantear múltiples áreas en las que los dos países puede cooperar, intercambiar experiencias  y trabajar conjuntamente para mutuo beneficio.

La Canciller Keniana dijo: “queremos darle nuevo vigor a nuestra relación, y definir nuevas formas  de aprender uno del otro”. Enfatizo la importancia que tiene este propósito en el marco y la perspectiva de la cooperación Sur-Sur, porque  “La experiencia, aprendizajes y comprensión desde los países que vienen del Sur es mas relevante dado que sus retos son comunes” aseguró.

Kenia expreso que  “Nos interesa la experiencia de un país como Colombia en temas de Paz, Legalidad y  Seguridad y en cómo crear una cultura de paz. Queremos que nos ayuden a trabajar conjuntamente en esfuerzos de conservación y reforestación de bosques, conservación de la vida salvaje y natural , cambio climático, y cómo integrar el cuidado del ambiente con la educación”.

La historia demuestra que Colombia tiene un liderazgo y una importante experiencia para compartir en temas urbanos, como es la  transformación de ciudades, los sistemas de transporte masivo, y en el manejo de los impactos de los procesos de migración y urbanización, como lo dijo la representante de Kenia. “Necesitamos iniciar el diálogo ahora, cuando Kenia está procurando manejar los retos de la urbanización y sus externalidades negativas como son el crimen, pobreza, salud pública” dijo la Ministra.  Reconoció que las ciudades traen beneficios pero también son generadores de  crimen, pobreza, y problemas políticos y Kenia  se beneficiaria de aprender de la experiencia Colombiana.

Pidió a la Embajadora que inicie diálogos con autoridades regionales y en especial con el Sistema Metropolitano de Nairobi, con los Ministros de Transporte, y Vivienda.  Y con la Ministra de Comercio para dinamizar acciones para beneficio mutuo y para desarrollar relaciones mas fuertes, para tener una vos común, y para avanzar en la mejora social de cada país.

La Embajadora de Greiff, por su parte expreso el entusiasmo y disposición de trabajar en estos temas, cooperar y profundizar nuestros lazos haciendo énfasis en el comercio, medio ambiente y temas de transporte y desarrollo urbano para  dinamizar la relación bilateral. Además agrego que otro tema en donde Colombia es pionero  es en el de Cobertura Universal en Salud, área prioritaria para el Gobierno Keniano y esta dispuesta a compartir su experiencia. Se acordó intercambiar experiencias de las acciones para involucrar a militares en la defensa del ambiente.

La Embajadora de Greiff agradeció la colaboración de Colombia y Kenia en el Consejo de Seguridad de Naciones Unidas.

En las horas de la tarde los dos países firmaron memorandos de entendimiento en temas de Consultas Políticas y de Intercambio de información y conocimiento entre las Academias Diplomáticas de los dos países, expresiones del interés de realizar un trabajo conjunto, desarrollar su relación de amistad y llevar la relación bilateral a un nuevo nivel, buscando apoyarse mutuamente en la transformación social para el beneficio de sus dos pueblos.

The Ambassador of Colombia to the Government of Kenya Mónica de Greiff met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Raychelle Omamo on August 20th at the Nairobi Chancellery to review and discuss the bilateral thematic agenda and discussed multiple areas in which the two countries can cooperate, exchange experiences and work together for mutual benefit.

The Kenyan Chancellor stated “We want to reinvigorate our relationship, and define new ways of learning from each other”. She emphasize the importance of this purpose in the framework and perspective of the South-South cooperation, because ‘experience, learning and understandings of the southern countries are more relevant due to their challenges being common,’ she said.

She expressed that ´We are interested in the experience of a country like Colombia In terms of peace, legality and security and how to create a peaceful culture. We want them to help us on forest conservation and reforestation efforts, wildlife conservation, climate change, and how to integrate environmental care with education.’

The Minister continue to say ´History shows that Columbia has a leadership and important experiences to share in urban development policies and practices , such as the transformation of cities, mass transport systems, and the management of the impacts of migration and urbanization.

‘We need to begin the dialog now, whilst Kenya is trying to manage the challenges of urbanization and its negative externalities such as crime, poverty and public health,’
the Minister commented. Cities bring various benefits but also are centers for the generators of crime, poverty, political problems.  Kenya would benefit learning from Colombia’s experience.

She invited the ambassador to initiate dialogs with regional authorities and particularly with the Metropolitan System of Nairobi, with the Ministers of Transport and Housing and with the Minister of Commerce to dynamize actions for mutual benefit, to develop stronger relations, and to have a communal voice to advance the social development of each country.

The Ambassador de Grieff, on her part expressed her enthusiasm and disposition  to work together on trade, environmental protection, urban development, transportation systems.

She mentioned that Colombia is Pioneer in the Health Universal Coverage and is willing to share the experience.  Also there was an agreement to Exchange experiences in the participation of military personnel on the environmental protections country´s efforts.  She finally thanks Kenia for their collaboration as a member of the Security Counsel of UN.
In the afternoon, both countries signed two instruments, Memorandum of Understanding, one por political consultations, an another one for exchange of information and knowledge on Diplomatic Academy.  This is in line with both countries interest to work together, develop their friendship, and take the bilateral relationship to a higher level, to mutually support each other, in pursue of the better living conditions of their people.
